How Yeast Affects your Dog

How Yeast Affects your Dog

Dogs are truly amongst the best pets that you could keep. However, if you’re looking for true companionship, you need to make sure that your pets are safe and happy. Everyone knows that there’s nothing dogs like more than food. They would eat anything and everything on sight! In regards to that, it’s important to know that not everything is good for them.

Yeast is one of the most common things that dogs tend to eat a lot, but it’s the one thing that can be quite dangerous for them. Here’s how yeast can affect your dog:

1. Dogs can’t digest yeast which means that while they may love bread, it can result in life threatening consequences. Indigestion can lead to poisoning which could mean immediate attention needs to be given to your pup.

2. Dogs can often end up with bloating from the indigestion which can significantly stretch their stomach. While bloating may not be evident to a lot of people, it’s important to really pay attention to your dog and notice if they’re behaving differently. Any changes in behavior can be a result of yeast indigestion.

3. Bloating can be known by its symptoms such as bloated abdomen, consistent pacing or rapid back and forth movement, anxiety and restlessness, drooling more than usual, attempt to vomit, heavy and rapid pants, shallow breathing.

4. Yeast can result in causing alcohol poisoning in your dog which can be quite lethal if not taken care of immediately. Always remember, if your dog accidentally eats yeast or anything containing yeast, immediately take them to the vet to ensure they are safe and sound.

5. If your pup is going through alcohol poisoning then you need to keep a watch of these symptoms; drooling, panting, decrease in refluxes, hyperactivity, attempting to vomit, staggering, weakness, etc.

6. It’s important to note that if a small amount of yeast is ingested, it might not have a much dire affect. This is usually because the stomach’s acid might deactivate the enzyme. However, it’s always important to make sure you head over to the vet immediately.
